The Black Keys are an American blues-rock music duo consisting of vocalist/guitarist Dan Auerbach and drummer/producer Patrick Carney. The band was formed in Akron, Ohio in 2001. Their name supposedly comes from The artist : Alfred McMoore ; that Auerbach's father (an art dealer) supported, who called people "black keys" as an insult.

The Big Come Up is the debut album by the American blues-rock duo The Black Keys, released in 2002 on Alive Records. The song "I'll Be Your Man" is used as the theme song for the HBO series Hung starring Thomas Jane. They have harnessed a close-to-the-bone, raw blues-rock sound on the album, sole instruments were Auerbach's guitar, Carney's drums, and the occasional organ.

(2003) MP3 @320 CBR

Most of the album was recorded in 14 hours in Carney's basement on an early '80s Tascam 388 8-track recorder. this process is called Medium Fidelity and it is stated, this recording method was patented. The goal is to achieve an older sounding sound. The song "Midnight in Her Eyes" is one of the few Black Keys songs that used a bass guitar; Dan Auerbach dubbed a bassline by playing a Guild SG-style bass through a guitar amp into the song.

Rubber Factory continues the Black Keys' tradition of raw, heavily blues-influenced indie rock. Rubber Factory was recorded in an abandoned warehouse in the Black Key's hometown of Akron, Ohio; and like Thickfreakness, was recorded and produced by Patrick Carney.

Chulahoma: The Songs of Junior Kimbrough is the second EP by American blues-rock duo The Black Keys. This tribute EP is a collection of covers from Fat Possum Records bluesman, Junior Kimbrough, who died in 1998. The title is a reference to Chulahoma, Mississippi, location of "Junior's Place", a juke joint bought by Kimbrough around 1992 and operated after his death by his sons until it burned down on April 6, 2000.

Akron's the Black Keys have jumped labels again with Magic Potion. Beginning on their own Alive label, the band established itself internationally with Thickfreakness and Rubber Factory. They now share a label with everyone from Pat Metheny and Sam Phillips to Toumani Diabat and Stephin Merritt. Fans needn't worry that the Black Keys being on a label distributed by Warner has done anything to their sound. Magic Potion is gritty, raw, immediate and sludgy. It was recorded at the band's studios in Akron, and the only real difference is that they've become even better at what they do.
